#WePROMise is a peaceful, organized group of recent Mercy alumna, allies and community members who are willing to stand up for those who can not stand up for themselves. Specifically, at Mercy High School where girls are not allowed to bring girls to prom in 2017. Use the hashtag to join us in the fight against homophobia and for equality!

"I'm signing because last year at Xavier (the guy school) I was pulled out of class twice and threatened and harassed by the administration, because there was a 'rumor' I was planning on taking a guy to prom, and it would be 'an uncomfortable situation for all of us' and 'the cops would have to be called' if I brought a guy to prom. The rumor was a flat out lie, and the administration proved that they have no love in their hearts for gay people. They'd rather pull me out of class and make me feel ashamed of myself.
Hopefully the situation will be different for the LGBTQ+ community at Mercy this year. I sign so that Women of Mercy don't have to go through what I did my senior year at Xavier. God bless the gays." -Jonathan Zoccoli, Berlin, CT |
